Foundation Year
Prime School also offers an International Foundation course which is equivalent to the completion of the Key Stage 5 - Years 12 to 13 - for pupils aged between 17 and 18 years old.

Overview

The foundation of Key Stage 5 offered by Prime School is taught by e-learning ( worldwide) or a presential or a combination of both (for portuguese based students) for pupils aged 17-18 (sometimes 19) and most schools take Advanced Level exams after a two-year course. This diploma is more focussed on business, computing and information systems, the course is taught in English and is the foundation of three courses that we offer in partnership with the following Universities:

BSC in Business Computing and Information Systems offered by The University of Lancashire , BA in Business Administration from the University of Worcester, and a BSC in Business Information Technology from the University of Greenwich.

Entry Requirements

For entry onto the International Foundation Year (IFY) qualification  you must have at least one  of the following: 

 

Previously studied in a secondary school level.

OR

 

 

A valid score of 5.5 or above in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) examination or equivalent. Alternatively you can take the exam Education Higher English Placement Test which is administered by our Accredited Partner Centres.

 

The International Foundation Year Diploma in Business and/or Computing syllabus and assessment is suitable for students aged 16-19 as well as adult learners.

Units

You must study the following four core units:

                English Language Framework (ELF) The English

Language Framework (ELF) is a course aimed at helping you to improve your language skills. The qualification is comprised of five levels and you can move through the levels according to your needs and abilities: Level 1: ElementaryLevel 2: Pre-Intermediate Level 3: IntermediateLevel 4: Upper-Intermediate Level 5: Advanced Optional Unit: Introduction to IELTS - prepares you for assessment by the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). This unit does not carry any credits towards the qualification and is not assessed by Prime Education.

Prime Education Level 3 Diploma in Business (QCF) (L3DB)

The Level 3 Diploma in Business (QCF)(L3DB) aims to prepare you for entry onto the Prime Education Level 4 Diploma in Business (QCF) and Level 4 Diploma in Business IT (QCF). The qualification provides you with an introduction to the field of business and equips you with the necessary study skills to succeed in higher education. You will be introduced to fundamental concepts of business, practical IT skills and mathematical concepts and techniques useful in your understanding of business and your further studies.

Level 3 International Foundation Diploma for Higher Education Studies

The International Foundation Year (IFY) is a one year pre-university qualification, including a significant degree of English language teaching. The qualification is designed to provide you with an entry route to UK university courses or progression onto the Prime Education Level 4 Diplomas in Computing, Business and Business IT. To complete the qualification you must study and pass 8 units, six of these are compulsory, two of these are electives. Prime Education Level 3 Diploma in Computing (QCF) (L3DC)

The Level 3 Diploma in Computing (QCF)(L3DC) aims to prepare you for entry onto the Prime Education Level 4 Diploma in Computing (QCF) or Level 4 Diploma in Business IT (QCF). The qualification provides you with an introduction to computing and equips you with the necessary study skills to succeed in higher education. You will be introduced to essential concepts of computer programming, practical IT skills and mathematical concepts and techniques to further your understanding of computing.

 

Assessment

Assessments for all units will be offered in a number of assessment cycles throughout the year. The units are all assessed by either examination or assignments.

Academic Progression
Diploma allows admission to the Prime Education Level 4 Diploma in Business Computing and Information Systems, Diploma in Business, or Diploma in Computing.
